Mozilla has released the first beta of Firefox 4.0 for two mobile platforms - Google Android and Nokia Maemo. In case you are getting confused with the name, Mozilla has clarified that Fennec is the codename of Mozilla's mobile project and Firefox is the official product name. The new Firefox 4 beta 1 for mobile incorporates all nifty features of the Firefox 4 beta web browser for desktops. New Firefox 4 Mobile version will work only for devices running Android 2.0 update or a higher version.

Download Firefox 4 beta 1 for your Android and Maemo device from this page.

Firefox 4 beta 1 for Android and Maemo devices incorporates the same technologies used in the Firefox 4 for desktop computers. Hence, you'll get to see the Awesome Bar, Firefox Syncs and Add-ons on this mobile version of Firefox 4 beta. Not all Add-ons available for desktop version would be compatible with the mobile Firefox 4 version. The new built is beta so expect it to be bit less buggy and quite stable compared to the nightly alpha builds for Android and Maemo platforms.

Firefox developers have worked hard to improve the responsiveness of the mobile browser and have also made the user interface more touch-friendly. On tapping on the location bar - Awesome Bar, users will get to see the Awesome Screen that shows a quick list of the user's most often visited websites and bookmarks.

Thanks to the Firefox Sync feature, you now can synchronize your passwords, open tabs, bookmarks, history and even form data for using it anywhere - on desktop or mobile. For a detailed list of enhancements in the Firefox 4 beta 1 for mobile check the release notes.

Do note that the Firefox Mobile is compatible with only select Android and Maemo devices.

Secret Codes For Android phones (Galaxy S,I5801,HTC wildfire,Desire)

I found this article few days back, which list a series of secret commands for Android phones. Bear in mind that that codes were obtained from a Samsung Galaxy phones and some of Android phone few may not work in all models.

Please be careful as it’s not always possible to undo the effects of a code (e.g. factory reset).

*#*#4636#*#*

This code can be used to get some interesting information about your phone and battery. It shows following 4 menus on screen:
  • Phone information
  • Battery information
  • Battery history
  • Usage statistics
*#*#7780#*#*

This code can be used for a factory data reset. It’ll remove following things:
  • Google account settings stored in your phone
  • System and application data and settings
  • Downloaded applications
  • Contacts saved in phone memory.
It’ll NOT remove:
  • Current system software and bundled applications
  • SD card files e.g. photos, music files, etc.
PS: Once you give this code, you get a prompt screen asking you to click on “Reset phone” button. So you get a chance to cancel your operation.

*2767*3855#

Think before you give this code. This code is used for factory format. It’ll remove all files and settings including the internal memory storage. It’ll also reinstall the phone firmware.
PS: Once you give this code, there is no way to cancel the operation unless you remove the battery from the phone. So think twice before giving this code

*#*#34971539#*#*

This code is used to get information about phone camera. It shows following 4 menus:
  • Update camera firmware in image (Don’t try this option)
  • Update camera firmware in SD card
  • Get camera firmware version
  • Get firmware update count
WARNING: Never use the first option otherwise your phone camera will stop working and you’ll need to take your phone to service centre to reinstall camera firmware.

 *#*#7594#*#*

This one is my favorite one. This code can be used to change the “End Call / Power” button action in your phone. Be default, if you long press the button, it shows a screen asking you to select any option from Silent mode, Airplane mode and Power off.
You can change this action using this code. You can enable direct power off on this button so you don’t need to waste your time in selecting the option.

*#*#273283*255*663282*#*#*

This code opens a File copy screen where you can backup your media files e.g. Images, Sound, Video and Voice memo.

*#*#197328640#*#*

This code can be used to enter into Service mode. You can run various tests and change settings in the service mode.

WLAN, GPS and Bluetooth Test Codes:

*#*#232339#*#* OR *#*#526#*#* OR *#*#528#*#* – WLAN test (Use “Menu” button to start various tests)
*#*#232338#*#* – Shows WiFi MAC address
*#*#1472365#*#* – GPS test
*#*#1575#*#* – Another GPS test
*#*#232331#*#* – Bluetooth test
*#*#232337#*# – Shows Bluetooth device address
*#*#8255#*#* - This code can be used to launch GTalk Service Monitor.

Codes to get Firmware version information:

*#*#4986*2650468#*#* – PDA, Phone, H/W, RFCallDate
*#*#1234#*#* – PDA and Phone
*#*#1111#*#* – FTA SW Version
*#*#2222#*#* – FTA HW Version
*#*#44336#*#* – PDA, Phone, CSC, Build Time, Changelist number

Codes to launch various Factory Tests:

*#*#0283#*#* – Packet Loopback
*#*#0*#*#* – Screen test
*#*#0673#*#* OR *#*#0289#*#* – Melody test
*#*#0842#*#* – Device test (Vibration test and BackLight test)
*#*#2663#*#* – Touch screen version
*#*#2664#*#* – Touch screen test
*#*#0588#*#* – Proximity sensor test
*#*#3264#*#* – RAM version

Known bugs:
  • This will disable wi-fi untill the original boot.img is flashed back.
  • This will also disable USB mass storage.

I Think, I'm first person in this world(at lest in India) to brake the such an beautiful  4'' SUPER AMOLED screen. he ha ha ha:)

Any how i'm writing this here to just  tell how much the screen cost if you broke one anytime.

My close pal was playing with it and accedentally skiped from his hand and felt down from first floor to ground and the touch screen got nothing on it but the LED inside had a huge crack on it.
Then i took it to Samsung Service center located in BTM layout,Bangalore.

The service center fellows ware soo suprised and happy to see the first issue of Galaxy S. then they checked the stock and said me they have two peices but its not just the LED they are going to change. the entire front part (If have ever seen this mobile the outer silver line part complete screen with the touch panel).I was amuzed. then they brought one from inside and then they showed it to me and started fixing it.
Finally fixed and i tedted it. They took Rs.6800 with tax .
Final touch the person who fixed it and billing it was telling to the next person "Samsung got my salary for this month" it touched my heart some were :( Any how i made my mobile price to 35K+ he ha ha ha ;)

I own an samsung galaxy s , I am writing an android blog and if i  'll not write any review of the mobile then it will be a big crime.
Soo here i start my postmortem of the product.
PROS:

  1. Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors.
  2. Dimensions 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm.
  3. 480 x 800 pixels, 4.0 inches.
  4. 5 MP Camera with almost all digital camera features(Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection).
  5. 720p 30fps high-definition(HD) video capture; digital compass.
  6. ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor(Hummingbird).
  7. 512 MB RAM, 2GB ROM
  8. Android OS, v2.1 (Eclair)(expecting update by sept'10 end).
  9. weight 119 grms.
  10. wi-fi, Blutooth , 3G ,andriod market ,social hub and GPRS/EDGE etc....
CONS:
  1.  Lagging (Such a god damn cool device is shipped with an cheap firmware. Thank god it can be fixed and expacting more in new update).
  2. No Flash.
  3. No full Ram usage(expacting full usage in 2.2.)(fingers crossed).
  4. Instead of built-in flash memory , Samsung gave built-in SD cardin indian version. Which intern improves the lag in phone.

How to get back ADW launcher after setting TW launcher as default.

Recently Friend of mine whoe owns HTC wildfire. He suggested me install ADW launcher to my galaxy s. I installed it .It simply awesome. I feel This is the best app of all which i am using currently.
ADW Really changes the feel of your UI and i recommend this as must have for Galaxy S(atlest) because of the poor UI provided by samsung in Indian version.
Then Coming to point While using this i mistakenly selected TWlauncher as default. Then i was not able to switch back to ADW at all.
Now i found two ways to get it back in place it is.

    1. Clearing defaults.
    2. Home Switcher.
    I. You can clear defaults by Goto Settings >> Applications >> Manage Application. Here you will get list of apps scroll and check for Twlancher if you can find well and good else you should click on options button at left it will give two options.
    1. Sort.
    2. Filter.
Select filter you will have an other list saying  All, Running and Third party.
Select Running. then it will shoe all current running apps and from that you can find current launcher(TWlauncher). Go into it click on 'Clear Defaults '. this will allow you to use ADW again .

    2. If you want an option to change launcher very often you can download 'Home Switcher' app from market which is free. it will allow you to change fastly but i found it bit lag using it.
